Recession proof your marketing: the recession looms....

    Recession proof your marketing:

Here comes the recession: but don’t be scared, be smart.

I read today that ‘The UK is at serious risk of recession over the next few months, according to a survey of 5,000 small businesses by the British Chambers of Commerce’. Their research found that orders and sales had slowed over the past quarter, with many companies suffering cashflow problems as a result.

Whether or not we are in a recession, or a downturn (as I like to call it), makes no difference as the simple fact is that ….

THERE IS GONNA BE LESS MONEY GOING TO SMALL BUSINESSES….

Now whether this last for a year or 5 years, also doesn’t really matter that much, as money is made in good times and hard times, so….

HOW ARE YOU GOING TO MAKE MORE MONEY WITH LESS MONEY?

Yesterday I went to a great event, (http://www.onecentralpark.co.uk/) a couple of talks about recession proofing your business from financial expert, all of which agreed on one thing.

THE RECESSION IS COMING ….. DON’T BE SCARED…. You can be recession proof.

Recession proofing your business is quite simply doing the things that you should have been doing in the first place. Marketing and keeping your customers happy.

Making sure you monitor your marketing, making sure you don’t spend for the sake of it, keeping in contact with your marketplace, seeing and realising opportunities TODAY.

    Things to think about recessions:

    • Recessions actually help different sectors become more buoyant

    • Recessions separate the wheat from the chaff

    • Recessions are best for those companies who are flexible

    • Not all sectors are in recession – so areas like techno green companies are vibrant

    • Government grants can help in recessions – they offer free help like Blue Orchid.

    • People MAKE money in recessions – the rich get richer by seeing opportunities.

Marketing things to do in the downturn time:

    • Learn more effective ways of marketing – start guerrilla marketing

    • Turn some resources towards research – give the people what they want

    • Invest in yourself – go to free workshops paid for by the government.

    • Return to entrepreneurial thinking – start the lateral thought process.

    • Remember people start buying for different reasons in recessions.
